2002 Meeting Review |
-
Sponsorship - Be sure to promote Mannington Floors as much as
possible. They were very generous last year.
-
Boat Covers - Jennifer is going to make one this spring. She
may make covers available to other fleet members for less than
the going rate. (This depends on how much of a pain in my butt
this is to do. - JLP)
-
We thanked Bill again for the great work on providing the
perpetual "Pig" fleet championship trophy. We noted that it
really needs a large base to sit on with room for the engraved
plaques. Chris will make this addition and put the trophy in
the clubhouse display case. The seems like a good way to
manage the perpetual trophy - keep it on your mantel to enjoy
in the winter, then bring it back to the club in the spring.
-
We need to replace the tackle on the buoys again. Nick should
raise this issue at club board meeting to see if we can get
reimbursed for it.
-
Nick moved to approve the 2002 minutes, Judd seconded, motion
passed unanimously.

Treasurer's Report |
Don says we have about $1500 in the bank despite not collecting any
fleet dues last year. We agreed that since we are in pretty good shape
not the collect for last year. Everyone should make an effort to write
a check to Don early this season.
Schedule |
A schedule was presented essentially just like last year. It was
approved as presented. Judd has placed the schedule on the fleet
web site.

already agreed to committee boat. Jennifer will get trophies.

Potential Members |
Dr. David Ossicker seems likely to join this Spring. He will be
moving to Tawas after school is out this year. Chris should remind
him to get his membership application in as soon as possible.
Greg Whipple seems less likely. Let's keep him on our e-mail
notices though.
Dan Siniff. Someone Judd knows that is looking to buy a big boat
and a race boat.
Others from the club? Richie, Stoddard, Judd says a couple of M&J
guys from Bay City are possibilities.
Buoys |
- Buoys are in the garage
-
The club is going to purchase two new cylinder buoys, we
recommended yellow.
-
Nick agreed to purchase swivel for the buoy tackle. This
should make them easier to handle on the water. The fleet will
reimburse Nick for costs.
-
Judd will buy air horn canisters for our and Ladd McKay and
Cannon use. Club can pick up the cost of these.
Out-of-Town Regattas |
We reviewed the schedule of out-of-town regattas and reinforced the
importance of representing our fleet out of town. New on the
schedule is Oakville (near Toronto) the weekend of May 24. This
replaces the Ashbridges Bay regatta and it would be great to help
them get their regatta off to a good start.
2003 Awards |
There was some discussion about having awards for just the top
three finishers and crew or for all boats. We agreed on only the
top three. This is easier on the budget and allows us to provide
good crew awards too.
We will plan to hold our awards on September 27 after our last
race. The club has an end of the year race party the 20th. We
agreed it would be nice to attend, but save our awards until our
season is complete.
New Business |
Nick proposed a change to our race course to include a short
windward leg to the finish - place a leeward mark a short distance
downwind of the start/finish line. After some discussion we agreed
this is not likely to be a good idea because of the additional
complication of adjusting the course for wind shifts. Until we
have a race committee and chase boats this is going to be
difficult. We did however agree to give it a try on our practice
race date.
We talked about working on cleaning up our finishes - everyone
should re-read and understand the rules at the finish before
hitting the water this spring.
We agreed to begin using the US Sailing standard 5-4-1 start (see
your current US Sailing rule book if you don't know what this is).
We will, of course, use sound signals only, since we don't have a
race committee to handle the flags.
We all agreed it is important to continue to "look like we're
having fun" together, both on the water and after, to encourage
other club members to want to join us.
We agreed on a scheduled cookout after every regular race date with
one of the boats in charge of providing food. Schedule as follows:
May 3 - Judd, May 10 - Bill, May 17 - Don, May 31 - Nick, June 7 -
Chris, July 5 - Judd, August 2 - Bill, August 30 - Don, Sept. 13 -
Nick, September 20 - Chris.
We all agreed to make a real effort to attend these gatherings to
build the fleet.
Judd agreed to take over management of the fleet website from
Chris.
