Anti-Awine Wins Great Day on the Bay |
|
A beautiful sunny day was in store for us, but hardly any wind
greeted us. We all got a slow start but we managed to get three
races in. After racing, a patriotic cookout to celebrate the
national holiday was enjoyed thanks to Cecilia Potts.
Race One (1)
Light air and smooth seas. Lots of little parking lots. Sea
breeze not quite ready to come in. All the boats get off the
line with USA 782 leading around the first mark along with USA
275. Wind began getting lighter and good gybes made up lots of
ground. USA 275 lead USA 838 around the leeward mark going back
uphill followed closely by USA 782 and USA 48. USA 275 and USA
838 went off to the right, comparing speed and jibs, while USA 782
and USA 48 went to the left and more breeze. USA 782 and USA 48
passed both USA 275 and USA 838 to the weather mark. USA 782 was
leading to the finish with USA 48 behind and to leeward and USA
838 behind and to windward. USA 838 caught a couple of puffs and
was right on USA 782's stern when USA 48 decided to gybe in. USA
838 soon followed along with USA 782. Near the finish USA 838
gybed back at USA 782 and barley crossed them for the win.

- USA 48 - Porcine Accoutrements
- USA 275 - "Insert Pig Name Here"
Race Two (2)
Saw the wind go a little left but no increase in velocity. I
don’t recall this whole race except that USA 838 led for a while,
kept going left but got passed somewhere by USA 782. USA 838 was
then able to pass them back and eventually win this race. Sorry
for the memory lapse.

- USA 782 - Pigs R Us
- USA 48 - Porcine Accoutrements
- USA 275 - "Insert Pig Name Here"
Race Three (3)
Another light air thriller, but with a different outcome. USA 275
lead the pack off the starting line and was chased by USA 838.
USA 48 was also fast in this air. After a shortened race USA 275
defended USA 838 to take the win.

Next up is the Tawas Lightning regatta. Bill Coberly and Don
Thwing will be the Race officers. Chris and Judd along with Ted
and Frank Fitus will man the mark boats. Youngstown for the
Levels is the next J/22 action. Hope to see you all there.
