The photo on the right was taken
during one of the first Regatta's held on Tawas Bay in 1897. The large boat
in the forefront is the "Comanchee". The owner Nicholas Harding
also used the boat to commute back and forth between Tawas Bay and
Bay City. It was much faster to travel by water then over land in the late
1800's and early 1900's. Four generations later, his great grandchildren
are still active
in Regatta's held on the Bay. |

Often during many of our early Regatta's large Schooner's were in
Tawas Bay. This photo was taken in 1905 of a ship just off Tawas Point waiting
to get loaded with lumber. Once loaded, off they would go on their journey
between Detroit and Mackinaw. |
| Here's a photo of another Regatta on the bay in 1930. |

meetings, and Yacht Club gatherings. Many International Lighting Racers from
around the world spent alot of time there. Our current site was picked in
the mid 50's and construction began. |

the parade many spectators would head down to the bay and watch the afternoon
races. |
